CAROLYNA PRO BLACK

carolyna pro besotted blog

I love, love, love seeing fonts I have mentioned ‘out in the wild’.  It’s a little thrill every time.  Heck, I love seeing any font I have admired out in the real world on packaging, places and things.  I love playing a little game of ‘ident-i-font’ with myself, it’s the little things in life…

I spotted Carolyna Black Pro on a darling baby book I picked up.  I love how the designer was able to balance the sans serifs with the flowy lettering of the Carolyna Black font.  This font suite by Emily Lime has so many glyphs and alternates that you can really customize it to make it feel like your own.  I really need to do a tutorial soon on how to access glyphs and alternates in your fonts, it will open up a whole new world of possibility and creativity!

On the baby book front, I had been searching aimlessly for a baby book that wasn’t too garish, too cheap feeling, too expensive and just well simple, Compendium Press came through, but I am curious if any of you have other suggestions?  I think it’s important for me to be able to collect these memories as this time goes by so fast and well my memory is just a wee bit foggy right now!

    1. Yes!!! I am just so perplexed that there isn’t a beautiful, classic, simple book on the market. Binth is nice but it’s a bit more mod than I would want, this book I picked up was the best I found and at least I have a place to write something down. I have ideas though, I am sure you do too! Let’s brainstorm:)

  1. Hi

I downloaded that font the other day, it is lovely. You have me thinking now, I’ll be looking for my favourite fonts in the shops as well!

    1. Gemma, I LOVE spotting fonts out and about. It’s so interesting to see how a designer uses them and also what they pair them with. I hope to be able to do more posts of fonts I have featured found on products and I am doubly hoping I can get the designers to let us know why they made the choices they did!

  2. My husband and I have a company which provides advertising/community service through baby books which are sent free to new parents compliments of area hospitals and business or professional sponsors. I designed the book which our business is built around. We are presently considering updating the book design, but I would love to send you one of our current books as a gift. I love and read your blog regularly. If you email me your mailing/shipping address, I will ship one of our books out to you this week via UPS. It is a hardbound record book for birth through seven years of age and features illustrations which are not the typical “cute” pictures, but rather have more of the feel of fine watercolor paintings.

  3. Why, Hello there– mama of one! A very belated congratulations! I’m sure Elle is a delight to you. 3-6 months is my absolute favorite. Their lips, feet and chubbiness are darling. As far as baby books, I filled out Luke’s for the most part, the last two? Hmmm, I don’t even have a clue. Oh my. Hope all is well!

I enjoyed Maybelle’s interview and really love her work. {maybe I should say “her art” instead of work!} Have a beautiful day and I do hope your getting into the mom groove. Ok, I have no idea what a mom groove is! Let’s just say every day is INTERESTING. Cheers, Kara

    1. Hello Kara!!! I think this is a nice time as well, especially since she is so engaged these days, I love the interaction and love that she is belly laughing often. It brings my husband and I to tears because it’s this really raspy laugh and it escalates with what she thinks is especially funny. Yesterday it was flatulent noises, but today she started laughing at my hair (it’s a mess). Maybelle is so dynamic and such a kind person to boot! I wish I knew what the groove was as well, I feel lucky that I don’t fall asleep while pushing the stroller, I am amazed that women (bazillions of them) can function and go out in the world and work. I would absolutely get fired in two seconds, I am just a bumbling love-drunk zombie right now!

  4. hi there,
I love this font and recently purchased it. I have been looking for a tutorial on how to use the glyphs, and found your blog post. Was wondering if you ever made that tutorial you mentioned above?
