Clean, modern fonts

modern clean fonts via besotted blog

We came across Jen Wagner Co. fonts the other day and knew we needed to share.  It’s always nice to have some good clean sans and serifs to pair with handlettering or to use in posts where you need/want legibility. Jen’s brush fonts also have a nice effortless chic to them. The only problem now will be deciding which ones to add to your collection because we pretty much want them all! Lucky for you and me she has priced them so you can buy them all!

Graphic design freebies and finds

freebies-and-finds-ia-besotted

Yesterday was Monday which means the new freebies are released from Creative Market, it’s something I always look forward to because sometimes you get some real winners and that never seems to happen with freebies!  Creative Market if you are unaware is a community of creatives that have come together to sell their wares to make your design life a bit easier.  You can find great talent- font designers, stock photography, design elements and so much more!  Yesterday the above stock photo was released, it came as set, completely free (you just need to have a free Creative Market account to download) by Her Creative Studio, which has some nice + simple stock photography. If you have been wanting some holiday inspired images for your blog, mailing list promo etc. you can download free for a week after that you have to buy it. Below are some more freebies and some new font finds (sorry they aren’t free BUT there is a font freebie here and here).Read More

Pirelli 2017 Calendar photos by Peter Lindbergh

pirelli-2017-calendar-photos-by-peter-lindbergh-via-besotted

I got this free font in my email today (don’t worry I will share the link!) and I was looking to put together a cool graphic to show it off, it’s a really nice brush font, because it has a little masculine edge which I was drawn to. It’s always nice to be able to have a variety of fonts to serve different purposes. I don’t often collect free fonts because they are usually poor quality and hog up a lot of precious memory on my computer so I try to keep to higher quality fonts, but this font isn’t always free and seems to be pretty well built! I was creating a comp that wasn’t coming together and then I spotted a preview for the new Pirelli calendar and was blown away. The calendar is known for it’s history of sexy glam images but last year with Annie Liebovitz’s take it shifted gears, this year the amazing Peter Lindbergh (one of my fave photographers) continued in Ms. Liebovitz vain, he said, “I aimed to create a calendar not around perfect bodies, but on sensitivity and emotion, stripping down to the very soul of the sitters, who thus become more nude than naked”.

The calendar also will not be retouched, what the what?  That’s pretty awesome and that’s coming from someone that loves her some editing programs. The thing is I love simple and that includes a simple edit, I also love emotion in images,. I want to be moved in some way, I want to feel something, that’s when I think photos have the most impact. One of my photographic goals is to be able to capture more ‘moments’, even when editing, I have started asking myself ‘where is the moment?’ and edit for focus on that. It’s a process, everything is right? But if you want to become better at something besides spending more time doing the thing you want to get better at, I think a good question is to ask yourself what you want to accomplish from doing X, Y, Z?  I would love for people to look at my work and feel something, hopefully it’s love, because who doesn’t want someone to fall madly in love with their work? But I digress, you want a free font right?…

Hand-lettered font bundle!

eat-cake-for-breakfast-via-besotted

This came on my radar this week but I thought I had missed the boat to mention it to everyone and was so bummed, but to my delight in investigating this morning I found it is still available! So QUICK,  get it while it lasts!

Hand-lettering artist extraordinaire Ms. Molly Jacques, has bundled some of her most popular (and some of my very favorite) fonts and is offering them for a drastically reduced price–27 fonts for $50?! Just one of those fonts comes in at near that price, this one here which I adore. Molly is not the only one doing bundled fonts many very creative font houses are offering them right now as well. I have linked to some that may be worth taking a peek at!

Retro-inspired script font

retro inspired script font via besotted blog

I am a huge script fan, but recently it seems I have seen a lot of the ‘same’ hand. My eyes were aching for something a little different when I stumbled across this lovely little font. A sweet (but not too sweet) monoline font, it has a nice retro feel and would be perfect for so many designs-a birth announcement (especially cute if the baby has one of those quaint retro-inspired name). I think the idea of making recipe cards or even a bookplate for a perennial favorite cookbook (like the ‘Joy of Cooking or Julia Child’s famous tome) would be perfect in this font. Lately, I have been studying a lot of scripts used in vintage Children’s books (loving Roger Duvoisin’s effortless hand) so you may see some more retro-inspired font goodness coming your way again soon!
