Retro-inspired script font

I am a huge script fan, but recently it seems I have seen a lot of the ‘same’ hand. My eyes were aching for something a little different when I stumbled across this lovely little font. A sweet (but not too sweet) monoline font, it has a nice retro feel and would be perfect for so many designs-a birth announcement (especially cute if the baby has one of those quaint retro-inspired name). I think the idea of making recipe cards or even a bookplate for a perennial favorite cookbook (like the ‘Joy of Cooking or Julia Child’s famous tome) would be perfect in this font. Lately, I have been studying a lot of scripts used in vintage Children’s books (loving Roger Duvoisin’s effortless hand) so you may see some more retro-inspired font goodness coming your way again soon!

Well , hello fine friends! As some of you may have encountered we had a bit of a botched code/design last week. Yes, there was panic involved and quite a lot of nail biting and the conclusion that we needed to switch back to our previous design pronto, which we have but have done some damage to our code. No worries, we are taking this in stride and although a little trigger shy we plan to try again soon (glutton’s for punishment?  Perhaps). Instead of waiting for the mystical, magical day to put up posts with our beautiful new look, we decided to put up a post (and an awesome) resource for you, we hope you like!

A collection of vintage inspired hand drawn fonts

A fine collection of vintage inspired hand drawn typefaces

We’ve written about artist/designer Edurado Recife before, because it would be a shame not to, such a talent! Most of his fonts came about to use in his own work which is ephemera/collage based with just enough edge to make it not feel granny. We just found out Eduardo’s foundry Misprinted Type is having a huge sale, 50% off of every font family, a rare, rare occurrence that we felt needed to be mentioned a.s.a.p.! Some of our faves are the King Bloser, a gorgeous script font with a ton of flourishes to work with. Another great, more traditional script (it seriously blows my marbles that it can pen like this) is his Mercy script. His Handmade font is perfect for so many vintage inspired projects that need a little edge, I’m thinking circus themed everything.  Let me stop blathering, you should go visit to see what he has to offer, I doubt you will be disappointed!

How to Access Glyphs in Photoshop

How-to Access Hidden Font Features via Besotted

Did you know that there are secret extra characters built into many of the fonts we feature here? You can find everything from ligatures, to alternate characters, to fun ornaments – whatever the font designer felt necessary. These characters are collectively called glyphs, and they are not only fun to use, but they are the key to making a hand lettered or calligraphic font look realistic!

If you are a graphic designer, and glyphs are old hat, you may not know that the latest version of Photoshop (finally) has a glyphs panel! That’s right, you don’t have to open Illustrator, and your command C / command V fingers can take a well-deserved break if you are designing something for web.
