HEART OF GOLD STATIONERY

HEART_OF_GOLD_BESOTTEDBLOGI don’t know about you, but I get very uncomfortable when receiving a compliment.  I love them, don’t get me wrong, but I am not the best at accepting them. I was taught to say ‘thank you’ immediately upon receipt of a compliment, but even though I feel my manners are usually in check my first response to a compliment is more along the lines of ‘shut up!’  That’s what I say every time my husband tells me I am beautiful–‘shut up’. I got very lucky to have my little heart of gold stationery set featured in Martha Stewart’s Whole Living this December; I knew that there was a small/remote possibility it may be as it was requested months prior, but it wasn’t confirmed so I just thought they passed on it.  When December rolled around and I got a text from my dear friend Connie that I was in, my immediate thought was ‘shut up!’ Obviously, I need to work on this behavioral dilemma.

It is Monday, the first ‘bestowal’ of the year, meaning I am giving away a set of the hand-printed lovelies above to one lucky individual, in order to enter to win I would like to know what your favorite compliment you have ever received was, just leave it in the comments below and I will choose a winner to be announced next Monday, January 14, 2013.  Good luck!

P.S. This was Whole Living’s last issue they announced they were folding.

  1. I think the compliment i’m never tired of is “you’re the best mum in the world” ! But of course i’m also delighted when people tell me that my papersculptures look like they are real persons of animals.

  2. My (late) grandfather once told me “You are some broad.” Coming from him, there was no higher praise!

Congratulations on having your gorgeous stationery featured. You deserve it.

  3. After my dad’s passing, I found a journal that he had been writing to me through out my years. In there he wrote about seeing me for the first time and his words were, “I had been praying for a daughter for years and I was so honored to finally have one. I was so honored to have you. I had been praying for you.”

Those words encompassed so much of how my dad loved me and was a great compliment to me.

This stationary is gorgeous and congrats on being featured!

  4. My favorite compliments are always the random ones that seem to pop out of someone’s mouth before they know they’re saying it… It’s like they’re stunned by a physical attribute or personality trait so much they blurt it out. Love it. Though it may seem shallow – one of my favorites has got to be “You have beautiful eyes..” – My blue eyes have been passed down from generation to generation… it makes me feel connected to my mother/grandmother/great grand mother in a weird way. Strange, I suppose…

  5. First off that is amazing. Congrats. Really doesn’t get more legit then Martha!
As for the compliments, I am right there with ya.
I have 2 that stick out in my life time. In high school I was told me I was “cuter then a bunny on a Budweiser box.” It was and still is one if the most bizarre things I have ever heard, but it stuck with me.
The best compliment is from my mom telling me I am the best thing she has ever done :)

  6. shut up…Whole Living is folding? I hope you found the issue in the bottom of your gift box. I forgot to ask you. P.S. These gold heart notes make the most perfect Valentines!

  7. How wonderful for you!!!!!!!!! And welcome back. Blog looks pretty. Can’t wait for more this year! Happiest new year from our heatwave down under.

  8. Congratulations on the mention in Martha Stewart!

I can’t be for sure if this is the best compliment I’ve ever received, but definitely the best in recent years! A customer ordered a cake from me for her husband’s birthday and one of the guests told me, “That cake was seriously beyond, I have trouble believing it was made by human hand and not divinely conceived.” I was on cloud nine for days!

  9. Seriously, that’s freaking awesome! =D
My most favourite compliments are from professionals who are better at and know more about what I’m doing then I do. It really makes a compliment feel genuine to me when it comes from someone knowledgable.

  10. I’m afraid I’m not much better than you at accepting compliments especially when they concern my appearance…… I think one of the best compliments ever received was from a family that adopted a dog I had fostered. They told me that Alfie had made their family complete, that while they were happy before he came along that once he had settled in that he had added a dimension and wholeness they had been missing. That a was a small part of this wonderful union was a wonderful feeling.

  11. I would have to say that the compliment that never fails to make me blush is when I hear my husband call me beautiful. Love it and love him! (congrats!)

  12. How fantastic that you got to be in Martha! My favorite compliment was from my boyfriend- he almost never ~tells~ me that I’m beautiful. He always finds other ways… One morning I came in after running with my neighbor, and all sweaty in sports bra and gear he says- ‘You know, you can really tell you’ve been running lately.’ Makes getting up at 5:30 worth it. :)

  13. I have to admit, I am similarly guilty of not being able to accept a compliment. Someone once told me that the only response to a compliment should be, “Thank you!” but I always manage to muck it up. I remember once a friend complimented a doodle I drew, and said it reminded her of Edward Gorey’s drawings. I was over the moon, I adore Gorey’s work! I probably mumbled something about my doodles being silly or something…

  14. Congratulations on the feature in Whole Living!! That’s huge!

This isn’t exactly my favorite compliment, but rather my favorite embarrassing story with a compliment involved:

My boyfriend likes to tell me that I’m beautiful and says that he is always at the ready to fend off would-be suitors, to which I laugh and brush off because I’m generally oblivious to anyone checking me out. One day while doing my normal run around Santa Monica, including a few rounds of the Stairs, I started to notice that a fair amount of people were giving me longer than necessary looks and I thought – “Oh, maybe Boyfriend is right and people do check me out!” -and was elated at the possibility of being pretty while sweaty. This excitement was short lived, however. When I got home I realized that a googly eye from a craft project earlier in the day had somehow transferred to my forehead and stuck from the perspiration!! Everybody was just staring at the chick running around with a googly eye on her forehead.

But, the Boyfriend thought it was hilarious and general attention makes me uncomfortable so I’m fine with going on jogs unnoticed. :)

  15. After not seeing each other for 20 years I was happily spending some time with my Aunt. At some point that afternoon, while playing with my Niece & Nephew, my Aunt turned to me and said, “You are exactly the same as you were when you were a little girl.” Since never truly growing up is one of my life goals I was delighted to hear that I am succeeding!

  16. Love the valentines!
My husband complimented me as I came down stairs to go out on a dinner date with him, ‘you look stunning’ , ‘people are gonna think I’m rich!’ Still makes me smile!

  17. When I first met my boyfriend of nine years, he told me “you’re beautiful.” He has said the same words to me nearly every day since.
