LIPSTICK QUEEN

lipstick queen chinatown chase besotted blogI like to think of myself as having a little substance, perhaps even some smarts (although my common sense is to be reckoned with), but when it comes to cosmetics I can talk shop all day long. I become a 16 year girl twirling the proverbial phone cord around my index finger (remember land lines?) and all the substance that I thought I was made of is reduced to an obsession with what are the best products around and why. I know there are a lot of you that feel the same way as I do, it’s like our inner teenager comes out takes over and all you can concentrate on is the perfect ‘X’ (insert your fave products here).

My lovely friend Jane, the one with the incredibly refined eye and the most exquisite taste around gets just as giddy as I do. We recently had a beauty obsessed email chain going from here (on the far West Coast) across the Atlantic and when she mentioned Lipstick Queen and wrote, “The BEST lipsticks ever”, I begged her to let me share her thoughts here with you. If you aren’t running out and adding these to your beauty booty, nothing will inspire you to do so!

‘Stoked’, Jane wrote, “Almost feels like a balm, but gives an amazing wash of sheer coral-ly color.” ‘Stoked’ is from the Endless Summer collection.  I have a wee obsession with balms, in all their incarnations-tube, tinted, squeeze, (not so much the pots but I could be persuaded). I digress, this product sounds right up my alley, I want to try the ‘Hang Ten’ which is a sheer nude, I adore a nude lip!

Saint Sunny Rouge, a touch more pigment than ‘Stoked‘, more ‘lipsticky’ but still sheer and easy to wear’.

Chinatown in Chase for natural/easy red and Catalina for the most natural pinky nude. These are so underrated. The texture is perfecto + they are no-brainers to apply”.  For those (like myself) that were not ‘in the know’ on such things this Chinatown chubby is supposedly a gloss-on-the-go. It’s the idea of a gloss, without the goop, brilliant!

I am sufficiently sold and planning on making a little trip to Barney’s before my California trip next week. I may look (and walk) like a tortoise; imagine the large awkward shell in front and legs that just attach to toes sans ankles and you have a pretty accurate image of me. Me thinketh that a hit of Lipstick Queen on my pucker might be a good diversionary tactic from the odd bod, no? Thank you sweet Jane, your insights are always so very thorough and I know you would not lead us astray!

  1. I’m loving this lipstick crayon trend and now I want one of those!

The Revlon version is pretty good but I wish there were more color options! The e.l.f. version looks pretty when you put it on but DOES NOT stay put. Boo.

Maybe we should meet up at Barneys for a testing session? xo

  2. Oh, that sounds like fun! I like E.L.F. their brushes are surprisingly good for the price. I had the Nars lipstick in a chubby pencil, but it was not flattering on moi, I had to take it back, but it is the red lipstick that all the beauty editors and make-up artist rave about!

  3. I’ve also tried the Revlon ones that Rachel is talking about above. And for their price, they’re pretty darn good. I agree that they need more colour choices – although they have a really nice nude colour that I love.
What I actually like more are their Just Bitten lip stains. They have 2 ends – one like a felt marker with the stain and the other with a colourless balm. I find them pretty fantastic, and I really am not much of a lip makeup person. The colours are really nice and buildable so you can have a little bit of colour or a deep saturation.

    1. Katie, I didn’t know the Just Bitten had a balm to it! I must go check it out. I LOVE a nude lip, although I am a bit on the pale side these days so nude is not so flattering on my pale face!

  4. I can COMPLETELY relate to the first few lines of this post. I can talk for hours upon hours about costmetics and actually find both the talking about and the application of makeup to be highly therapeutic. I love these recommendations!

    1. Oh, yes Natalie very therapeutic, my fave is one someone actually tries a product or tip and it becomes a game changer for them!
