LOVE HANDCRAFTED | LIMITED EDITION VALENTINE’S SET

Valentine's Set Besotted Blog iiSometimes I feel like one of the only people that truly loves Valentine’s day.  I have heard the cynics cry that it’s a made up holiday to move greeting cards, but to me the ever optimist I like the idea that it’s a day to stop and let people you love  know it. I am not much for pomp and circumstance in general, I think you can deduce that, I like simple things. I don’t view Valentine’s as a day for hokey candlelit dinners, cheesy drugstore cards or bad chocolate but a day to just spread the love. You can send an email, note, carrier pigeon (which would be awesome) or pick up the phone but as we roll heart first into Valentine’s 2013 try to think of it as day to tell the people you are closest to you that you are thinking of them, love them or that they are your favorite.  To help you send that note or decorate that tag that will adorn your batch of freshly baked sweets I am giving away 2 sets of the Limited Edition Petite Valentine’s.  In order to enter to win just answer the following question in the comments below-What’s your favorite love story? It can be from a book, film or real life. eg. When Harry Met Sally, Jane Eyre & Mr. Rochester, Napoleon and Josephine or your parent’s, etc.  I will announce the winners next Monday, January 28, 2013.  Good luck!

  1. I agree with you completely! I’m all about Valentine’s Day as a day to tell your friends and loved ones that they are important and special to you. I think I’d have to say that one of my favourite love stories is the book The Time Travellers Wife. Such a wonderful story! A friend recommended that book to me a few years ago and I was not disappointed. Some of my favourite romanitc/comedy films are from director Nancy Meyers. She made The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black. She also directed It’s Complicated with Meryl Streep, as well as Something’s Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. Love, love, LOVE her movies!!!

  2. Despite the fact that my Valentine prefers to offer me flowers or jewellery every day except on valentine’s… i do like this day. To answer your question, one of my favourite love story is Out of Africa with Meryl Streep and my dear Robert (Redford). I have seen it many times but still cry each time i’m watching it…. A beautiful love story but also a story about independency and mutual respect.

  3. My parents. My father moved from fredericksburg, va ( considered a big time city in 1942) to madison,va…a rural, farm area. on the first day of school (a one room school…all grades together) he wore knickers & a vest. was immediatley teased & decided to sit behind a pretty girl with long, dark brown braids. in his furstration, he decided to cut off her braids…she was to become the love of his life. she was in 2nd grade & he the fourth. thus began their destiny & love…from his devilment. the next day he ditched knickers forever for jeans.

  4. Well, I kind of like our love story! We met on Dec. 28, 1996. 28 days later he asked me to marry him and our wedding day was September 6, 1997!
Favorite love story to watch is Pride and Prejudice. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

  5. Oh, I do so love Valentine’s Day. And a good love story . . .
Let’s see, a favorite–I once read a {true} story of a young high school boy who met a young high school girl at the start of the semester. He was gangly and not at all outgoing; she refused to be confined by her wheelchair–and she was the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. So, he made it his mission to ask her to Prom. That day forward, he came to school early to workout in the gym. He worked out the whole year through–and when the time finally came for the dance, he asked the girl to be his date. She accepted. The night of the dance, he picked her up, she wrapped her arms around his neck, and they danced the night away . . .
I know they stayed together after high school, but I don’t know their ultimate story. I often wonder if their love lasted; I hope it did.

  6. Oh I love these! And my apologies…for some reason Bloglovin is not posting your new entries so I have missed a few. That is how I do my reading usually ;)

  7. Your Valentines stamp set is wonderful. I, also, truly love Valentines Day. To love and be loved is living. I am blessed beyond measure with people with whom I love so very deeply. It is just plain fun to find or make a card to send. Maybe send a little something in the mail. Prepare a meal together as a couple or family is terrific on this day. A heart shaped brownie in a lunch box will do! I am awful at recalling favorite movies, but someone mentioned Something’s gotta give. Loved that, but might have been that gorgeous house and the ocean that pulled me in!

  8. Being a true romantic, I’d have to say Lady and the Tramp is my favorite love story. It won my heart oh so many years ago and still brings a smile to my face when I think of the guy from the wrong side of the tracks and the lovely little lady, the bowl of spaghetti, and, of course, all the little pups.

  9. I, much like you, find I’m one in a few to truly love, LOVE Valentine’s Day! Maybe I am a hopeless romantic and what other holiday lets you celebrate that?! It’s fantastic! I don’t think I could ever read (as well as watch) The Notebook too many times. Every time time it touches my heart as if it were the first time I was experiencing it.

  10. amen! i feel exactly the same way about Valentine’s Day :)
favorite love story is proving DIFFICULT!! I find one of the most tragic to be Professor Snape’s unrequited love for Lily Potter. For a happier look at love, how about Noah and Allie of The Notebook

  11. Love the glitter of Valentine’s Day. Red, pink, glitter….happy. Could be Christmas too though….still happy! I guess when I think of love stories I always go back to GWTW. Scarlett and Rhett. That wasn’t an easy love story, ending badly but oh I was young and just thought it was so heart-wrenching. Stays with me still.

  12. What a darling set! I always make and send Valentine’s–mostly to the women in my life who I love and want to celebrate.

My favorite love story is my great grandparents’: he emigrated from Greece in the early 1920s, and spent years trying to get his mother to send his new bride to America. After sending the money for her passage twice, he tried a third time and included a photo of the Thompson, CT schoolhouse, which he claimed was his home. Confident that he had enough money to bring them all to America, his mother finally allowed my Nana to travel across the Atlantic, and during her month-long quarantine at Ellis Island, my great grandfather spent every day talking to her through the wire wall. Their love story always makes me feel a little weepy!

  13. My favorite fictional romance belongs to Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, but my all time favorite love story belongs to my grandparents. My grandmother was one of the few women at the business school she attended (as was the time) and she was sitting with the only other woman in her class at the bus station when a handsome man walked by on his way to class. My grandmother leaned over to her friend and said “that’s the man I want to marry. I just know it”

I’m sure you’ve guessed, but that man is my grandfather.

  14. I’m a huge sucker for anything Jane Austen wrote. I love myself a nice gentleman. :) But basically I’m a huge sap and anything even remotely romantic will have me bawling.

  15. My favourite love story is the one from my husband and me: I always had a crush on him as he was the older brother of my best friend. Finally he fell i love with me when I was 16 and he was 21. Some days I just can´t believe that I already spent one third of my life with him :)

  16. I find it difficult to pick all-time favorites because my mind tends to focus on the here and now. And since I just finished reading Jane Austen, I have to say it is currently my favorite love story. I have so much respect for Jane’s character and her stubbornness in doing what SHE thought was the right and honorable thing to do, so much so that I don’t even care that she ended up with a character I disliked from the get-go. She never went against her principles/ morals for the sake of love, and that is so refreshing.

  17. Your blog/work is so beautiful! Favourite love story of all time ‘The Notebook’ Noah and Allie makes me melt every time.

  18. Since we married on February 18th my husband and I never payed much attention to Valentines day to prevent yourselves from a romantic shock :) But I love your idea of spreading love on this special day! My favorite love story is the one between Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox in “You’ve got mail”. I watched it more than a hundred times. I love it.
