Angie Makes Matchmaker font besotted blog

A few weeks ago I was visiting my fave font shop and found this lovely little font called Matchmaker. I thought it could be a good font to mention as I know that the long ‘tails’ are very coveted on the blogosphere.  It’s a simple, sweet and affordable font, purchasing helps a new mom out (no not me, the creator of the font). I reached out to Angie B. the font designer to let her know that I thought she had a good thing going here and found out she has a five month old, then I proceeded to ask how she was doing it.  I think I may start asking more creative mommy’s how they are doing it (the whole work and mommy thing), because I feel like I need lots of help.  It may ‘take a village’ to do a lot of things but I need to access the entire globe for help.  I was adamant that I wasn’t going to turn this into a ‘mommy’ blog once Elle was born, but it’s who I am now, I’m a mom and I have lots of questions and I need lots of answers and to tap into the wealth of experience that is the world wide web, maybe there are others out there that are interested as well, those who are mom’s, those that are mom’s to-be, or those that need to know the truth about life with baby (newsflash no one is glamorous with throw-up in their hair).

Oh and if you are wondering how I was able to get this post in, my little babe has been sleeping for an unprecedented two hours!  Two hours?!  I feel like I just won the Lotto, she’s never slept for more than an hour during the day, so this was a happy surprise as I want her to be able to sleep and of course I want to be able to work so I can provide for her (which is why I am procrastinating by blogging).  Every day is a learning experience and every day things change with a baby, thank you for your visits, they keep me going and keep me from feeling like I am doing this all on my own.

P.S. To access the ‘tails’ in Adobe Illustrator you can got to ‘type’ and then ‘glyphs’ and a box will pop up of all the glyphs which is the technical tern for the ‘tails’. Our friend Debi Sementelli (of Bellucia font fame) created a video on importing glyphs from Illustrator or InDesign into Photoshop that you may find very helpful.  There currently  isn’t a glyphs panel in Photoshop. In Microsoft Word I believe you can access via ‘text’ then ‘symbol’ and then ‘insert’, but I haven’t used Word in ages so if someone wants to correct me on that please feel free to!

  1. There is a great quote from Tina Fey about working mothers: “I think every working mom probably feels the same thing which is you go through big chunks of time where you’re just going ‘this is impossible — oh this is impossible.’ And then you just keep going and keep going and you sort of do the impossible.”
You are doing it, and you will continue to do it, and one day soon people will ask you how you did it.

  2. NEWSFLASH- no one glamorous is with throw-up in their hair is what you should read that as. There are people with teams of helpers, be it nannies or employees in the office or even just family that live near by who help out a lot. Doesn’t make them any less real, just makes them a little cleaner and a lot less stressed I imagine.
Just remember, you ARE providing for your sweet girl and you ARE managing (even tho there will be lots of times when it feels like you are failing miserably). One day you will realise that you’ve managed to learn each others moves and you’ll dance a merry dance together (and your days activities will just fit) and it will feel like something out of a 50’s movie. It might only be a fleeting moment but when they come they are so worth it. x

  3. Angie is fantastic and I love Matchmaker. You’re definitely not at fault for asking other creative mommies how they are making it. I love that bloggers are usually so open about their lives and are willing to share what’s working versus what isn’t. Wishing you the very best and I’ve heard it gets easier with time and practice (and possibly a whole globe to help :P)

  4. Tristan,
I’ve followed your lovely blog for sometime and thought now was a time to post a comment. As the mother of two grown sons, I think you should do some research into the “signs of giftedness”. My oldest son never slept more than an hour at a time and he needed constant stimulation. As you reach out for mothering advice I felt it was a direction you should look into. There are many websites on gifted babies and sleep.
Our son’s IQ is over 160 and he recently told us he felt “abused” sitting in school classrooms. The urge for stimulation is great! He is now a Global IT manager for a leading systems company in Europe. Daily life with cutting edge technology keeps him stimulated and he never tires of leaning.
Do not feel you need to post this comment, but please let me know what your research turns up! I wish you all the best! Linda

  5. Keep reaching out, asking questions & know you aren’t alone. I wish I would have been brave enough to admit to my fears, concerns & overwhelming feelings. Love so many moms/business ladies that share their struggles/how to’s on their blogs. Alisa Burke is one I’ve enjoyed even though my children are way past the baby/toddler stages. Liz Lamoreux also is a great one, with peaceful prompts, honest words & a whole heart. You are doing great! Just keep asking! All best.

  6. dear miss tristan,
i can very much relate to a baby not napping … my girl (now 18) almost never napped, from the time she was born, pretty much until forever. she learned to crawl before she learned to sit. she did not like staying in one place, so napping never seemed to be something she was interested in. she would dose while feeding, power nap for a bit and then be awake again. i did notice that the more calm and less stressed i was the more relaxed she would be, so she could sit in her little carrier near me (i never had a wrap) and i would do things in very short bursts of time. it was not easy, but she is a radiant social butterfly now, still as full of energy. just take it a day at a time, sometimes an hour at a time and you will absolutely learn as you go :)

  7. glad you’re embracing the mom thing on this blog– love this line from your post, “I was adamant that I wasn’t going to turn this into a ‘mommy’ blog once Elle was born, but it’s who I am now, I’m a mom and I have lots of questions and I need lots of answers and to tap into the wealth of experience that is the world wide web, maybe there are others out there that are interested as well, those who are mom’s, those that are mom’s to-be, or those that need to know the truth about life with baby (newsflash no one is glamorous with throw-up in their hair).” regardless of what your blog is about, it will always serve as a source of inspiration for many. bravo!

  8. This is who you are and it’s perfect! You are amazing and it’s so hard to be a mommy, let along with a creative business that takes effort and energy.

  9. Oh my goodness!! You are a lifesaver I’ve seen this font all over but can’t find out how to get it myself! THANK YOU!

  10. I ended up visiting your blog through Pinterest and as a mother of a beautiful baby boy, I felt that your writing warmed up my heart. As a graphic designer myself who is trying to find a way to keep my creative side alive after a long exhausting and yet of course valuable day, I wish to give you all the encouragement and hope that I find your blog and the writing inspiring! :)

  11. I too found you though Pinterest! Yaaaa! You are doing beautiful things and I honestly love your blog, words and style. :) I did go purchase this font… but have a question…. the lovely tail at the front and back of the word in the example…. is there something I’m missing? My download doesn’t do that. Thanks for the grace!

    1. Hello there, the image links and the word ‘matchmaker’ in the post will take you to the font to purchase:)
