MATT CHASE::UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE RE-BRANDING

My scheduled mail pick-up didn’t happen yesterday.  I was heartbroken as I wanted needed these two dozen packages picked up and delivered to the recipients and not sitting at my front door, looking forlorn as they were last night when I came home from work. There’s not really any recourse with the Post Office, no one to pick up the phone and listen to you complain, it was in a word (or two)–a bummer. I have learned a lot about the Post since I opened my first Etsy shop, one is that tax payers do not pay for the Postal Service, it’s an independent business, which to me means that the company should care a teensy bit more about their customers, no? With the scare of them threatening to shutter, designer + illustrator Matt Chase took it upon himself to create a re-brand to save the Us Post Office.  In my humble opinion it’s pretty fantastic.  It’s nostalgic enough to pull at the heart strings and modern enough to work for the future.  It’s a fantastical project that will probably never come into fruition as their customer service needs a re-brand first and foremost (you know the expression about a pig with lipstick right?).  I highly recommend you take a second and peruse Matt’s concept, it will make you smile, unlike standing in line at the Post will. DIY ‘VINTAGE’ CRATES

I am a bit obsessed with finding storage options for my space, even though I am a minimalist by nature, I do have inventory + supplies to contend with now (and a tiny apartment to fit everything in). I found some great tutorials utilizing crates as storage and on creating your own faux vintage crates (insert squeal here). True vintage crates can get expensive if you are buying in multiples but I have added my favorite vintage crate resource for those that don’t want to put in the elbow grease.

BESOTTED BRAND SNEAK PEEK::VINTAGE POSTMARK STAMP

I used to sell something similar in my Etsy shop (many moons ago).  I missed having a stamp like this at the ready for my parcels so I made one for moi and knew it would be great for a wedding detail (think stamped favor bags) or for a small business.  I made this one with a weathered vintage vibe (taken from an actual early 18th century postmark), but a clean, crisp version will be forthcoming. I never know how my ideas will translate as stamps, so it’s nice when an idea actually works like I intended.  You can pick yours up here, but if you are feeling lucky let me know in the comments why you might need/want a stamp like this and I will choose a winner on Friday, December 23, 2011.  Good luck!

THE WANDERLUST BY DANNI HONG

One of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met is Miss Danni Hong (actually a Mrs., but you know I love a good Miss, right?) recently opened up a delightful shop called The Wanderlust.  Danni’s shop is a as sweet as she. There is a lot of vintage inspiration going on–think Anthro meets Japanese stationery shop. Danni, whom is also generous gave me these darling scissors, I already owned a pair of embroidery crane scissors so I think I now have the beginnings of a new collection!  Danni suggested I use them for props, for someone like me that has been struggling with my product photography I was so appreciative for the thoughtful gift.  The little compass, well that’s just so apropos for a store dubbed ‘wanderlust’, it came as a topper on the gift she gave me, when you have a gift that has a miniature compass attached to it you know it’s going to be good.  Danni’s shop is closed for the holidays, but keep it on your radar, it won’t disappoint.
