This is my best friend George and her best friend Martha. ‘George’, ‘Georgie Girl’, ‘G.G.’ or just ‘Perfect’ has been my favorite gift I have ever received. I never had my own puppy before, nor my own bunny, two animals that I have wanted my entire life and now I feel like I have a combo–a bunny pup. These photographs are as rare as a Yeti sighting as my little love never allows me to photograph her, she’s the Garbo of dogs, she just wants to be left alone. But how can I leave something as impossibly cute as this alone? She begs to be picked up and smooched and ooh’d and ahh’d over. When I look at her I can’t believe she’s real, she’s so tiny and teddy bear like. Sigh. I know, I know, I am being a show off, I can’t help it, when you are in love you just feel like letting the whole wide world know.

Please tell me this styling tickles you as much as it does me. I have been having a sequin moment and these festive woodland animals are all set to deck my halls. Plus they raise funds for St. Jude’s so it’s guiltless shopping. You can pick up your own menagerie here.

SOUVENIR FOTO SCHOOL::FOOD + FOTO:: NO.004
It’s Tuesday! I took a little break from the interwebs so I could cook my heart out for the last four days. I like any excuse to feast. The above bread was baked by moi and I am so proud I could burst. My first bread attempts were fine and edible, (a plus) but the crumb was a tad on the dense side and I love those airy holes and crusty, crunchy crust which I wasn’t able to accomplish until this weekend. I tried my hand at a beer bread and it was horrible, it was my fault I used a very hoppy beer (it had a pretty label) and it overwhelmed any other taste the bread would have had if it had any other taste than a weird alcoholic one. I am convinced you would be arrested if you drove after you ate my awful beer bread. I tried Jim Lahey’s recipe on Saturday, the bread wasn’t ready to bake until Sunday–so. worth. the. wait.
That brings me to week four of our Food + Foto project, only 2 weeks left and I can’t believe that I have actually accomplished a semblance of continuity with the images, so unusual. These were taken at night with the help of my trusty lights. If you didn’t make it into class this time but are looking for a creative photo project, food certainly is an excellent subject. I think you will find it both challenging and inspiring, bonus you get to eat your ‘props’.

SOUVENIR FOTO SCHOOL::FOOD + FOTO:: NO.003
So here we are at the half way mark of the Food + Foto session of Souvenir Foto School. My goal for the six weeks is consistency with my images. I have been consistent with light and subject, although I do feel like my set is a little boring. Don’t get me wrong, I love plain and simple, but I think I have veered this side of a yawn. It has been very challenging for me to try to recreate the same sort of light at different times of the day, ideally I would have chosen the best time for my light and shot at that same time each week. Unfortunately, my current schedule doesn’t allow for the luxury of planning around my shooting so I am making do. This shot and the last one were shot with artificial light and I am pleasantly surprised at how well this device has been able to mimic natural light.
For those that may be curious this is usually what my breakfast looks like–a piping hot latte with French pressed espresso and loads of frothy foam. I indulged in this tool to assist with the milky clouds that top my morning “breakfast”, it’s great for making the fluffy frothiness that I adore but it doesn’t make the milk warm enough for my taste. I have since seen other models that are a little more fancy but what I really wish was that I had seen Lucinda Scala Quinn’s easy way to make foamy cappuccino’s before I was out so much dinero. On the bright side? I do save money by having my coffee at home and it’s so much nicer to drink my latte out of porcelain than paper.

FASHION + FAIRYTALES::EUGENIO RECUENCO
Spanish photographer Eugenio Recuenco’s magical images have that same dark quality that the Brother’s Grimm tales inspired in me as a young girl. There’s something a little haunting in the stories that is reflected in Recuenco’s images, maybe that’s what makes both the stories and these photographs so unforgettable.
