SARAH HOROWITZ PERFUMERY WORSKSHOPS II

Last Saturday I attended another one of perfumer Sarah Horowitz’s workshops.  It was a very intimate class, just myself, Sarah and two very talented perfumer’s.  I really enjoy these classes, it’s like cooking you may know a recipe but everyone does it just a tiny bit differently.  I pushed myself to create something other than a floral and made a fragrance that was an almost exact replica of a green, watery cucumber.  I like cucumber’s don’t get me wrong but I don’t think most people want to smell like one.  We also worked with essential oils, something I really enjoy. Sarah gifted us with Rose Damascus, essential oil which in her words was ‘worth its weight in gold’.  I love that it conveyed a preciousness that you don’t find in one’s ordinary dealings with oh, say the bills. The class truly transports you to another time, the blending and exuberant experimentation is perfect for fragrance-phile indulging. I have recommended her classes before but in case you are still on the fence about taking the plunge, there is not a better, kinder (more patient) fragrance teacher.  I am feeling very motivated to start work on some personal fragrance projects.  I know Jules has requested a real rose perfume (read–not musty or mothball-esque) and I am hoping I may be able to comply soon with a fresh, clean, just picked version with bright citrus top notes and sunshine on your skin dry down. Well, I’ll try…

CUSTOM PAINT BY NUMBER KITS

I was dreaming about Paint by Numbers last night, why that was in my sub-conscious I have no idea. I do know that the idea of custom paint by number projects sound very appealing to my painterly -challenged self.  Think of all the fun portraits you could create, or wallpaper with our without color, impress your friends and family or better yet impress yourself.  There is something very satisfying about a finished paint by number, it’s like completing a puzzle, there’s a sense of accomplishment associated that you had the patience to complete.  I have been wanting to find vintage oil paintings of dogs for my foyer, to no avail ( anyone have a source?) and I am thinking that maybe I can get some custom paint by number kits created and paint my own.  There are some kits that aren’t as obvious that they were a PBN, which will make you look like a master artist and who wouldn’t want that?

MONDAY’S + BUNNIES

The week hasn’t officially started and I know it’s going to be busy + banana’s. It is written in the stars and in my composition notebook filled with five pages of to-do’s to be completed by 6 p.m.  Welcome to my wildly glamorous life. I found this bunny via From Me To You, only the world’s best Tumbler. I know you find that hard to believe that I have discovered the best Tumblr, that would be like saying I found the best blog, it would be near impossible but really Jamie Beck’s Tumblr is so fabulous that I am going to deem it the best.  You will just have to check it out for yourself here and concur. Happy Monday!

PEONIES + PROCRASTINATION

I am such a procrastinator.  I have so much to do right now and not enough time to do it, so I am doing what any good procrastinator worth her salt would do–put off what I could do today until tomorrow.  Except today was yesterday’s tomorrow and I am sorely behind. I have run out of time to procrastinate and have to get some things in for deadline, which is why I am writing this post. I continue to procrastinate, but this feels like a little deep breath before I have to dive into the deep end of unfinished business.  For some odd reason when I am writing a post on borrowed time I don’t feel as guilty as I would if I say was lost on Flickr for an inordinate amount of time (it’s quite easy to do).  I shot these peonies the other day, I am working on product shots and got distracted and started shooting my props solo.  At this rate I won’t be opening my shop for another three years, sigh.  Okay, off to meet a deadline, wish me Godspeed.

P.S. Thank you to the inordinately beautiful ‘This is Glamorous’, Rosaline featured a link to my poppies which in turn has validated my procrastination problem even further.

BELLA IS A BAD GIRL

I came home last night to my very naughty Frenchie Bella leisurely reclined on one of the pairs of my black silk vintage club chairs. Even if she had a glass of vino and cigarette in her paw she couldn’t  have looked more relaxed.   Did she jump abruptly off the furniture in a moment of panic and guilt when she spotted me?  Nope. Bella knows better than to be on the chairs, she sheds like crazy and white shedding Frenchie plus black furniture is a no-no.  These chairs will one day be re-upholstered in a natural Belgian linen (one mystical, magical day when I come into some excess cash…). I digress…I wanted to scold her and remind her that I have lambasted her father (the Fancy) for lesser infractions, but whenever she tilts her head just so and gives me that ‘What me? Did I do something wrong?’ look she gets yet another free pass to bad behavior.  I’m an enabler, it’s true.
