MRS. POMERANZ

The description for the utterly charming Etsy shop Mrs. Pomeranz reads, “Mrs. Pomeranz is a small sewing company located in London…”. How can you not love a shop that sells 50’s inspired frocks and calls itself a sewing company?  It’s all too sweet.  I wish I owned one of these shirt dresses, it would be perfect for a photo shoot or for all those jaunts to Paris or the Italian Riviera that the Fancy and I often do, of course on the spur of the moment with our two pups in tow (yes, I am dreaming…of both the dress and the adventure, sigh).

MY DAGUERREOTYPE BOYFRIEND

Sunday had me at the Flea with my three pound dog, yes I am one of those women that carry their dog in their bag.  George likes the bag and I like her company, it’s a win-win situation. I like to go there and dig through old photo’s and see if any vendors are accidentally selling vintage cameras for a a fraction of what they are worth.  I bought my SX-70 there for $5 and the following weekend the vendor caught on and was selling one for $150, sigh, how quick these treasure hunters learn.  There was a vendor selling daguerrotypes and ambrotypes starting at $30, I wanted one or two (dozen), but figured that I really can’t justify frivolous spending right now. The vendor tolerated my opening almost every album to ogle, but I think he would really rather have had me and my dog be gone.  He said he sold on Etsy, but only the $500 and up ones in a tone of voice that basically could be interpreted as, ‘so if you can’t afford the $30 ones don’t even bother looking me up’. I left the Flea empty handed but not uninspired, I remembered this witty lady had mentioned My Daguerreotype Boyfriend, which of course I adored (she has such splendid taste that one) and then I read about this one (I am much too much of a lady to repeat the title), and then there’s this one.  It seems that dead hot guys are all the rage, go figure. Have you succumbed to this phenomena?  Do you know of more sites like these?  Inquiring minds want to know…

RABBITIER

Nope, I never do tire of hunting down cute for Monday’s post.  This bunny, well, heck if it didn’t bring a little grin to your face I am not sure if I can be of any assistance.  I hope you all had a nice weekend, as usual I was trying to will Sunday to last a wee bit longer, no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to make the darn day last longer. I was putting my schedule together for the week and it looks like it shall be a busy one.  I have always been more of a pen and paper type of schedule maker but now that the projects are multiplying (read piling up) I feel I need to have something more computer based, something with a timer-slash-bullhorn mechanism that will go off and let me know it’s time to move on to the next task.  I am usually pretty organized and can juggle my time quite adeptly but with everything going on I need to keep each project on course and I tend to get lost in each task then want to flog myself later because I know that means my work day runneth over to a work night.  I so envy people that set there work hours and only work within that time frame, who are you magical people and how can I get you to rub some of your time mojo on moi? How do you keep your schedule? Paper, computer, memorization, personal assistant?  Do you have a secret to not just working yourself to death?  Do tell….Happy Monday!

IPHONE HOMAGE

It’s Friday?  Mon Dieu!  This just may have been the fastest week of my adult life. I had no idea it was Friday already?! I have been busier than usual with my freelance work and setting up the shop, it’s hard for me to be my usual self and get distracted by something shiny. I wanted to pop in and wish you all a happy weekend and also to sing the praises of my Iphone.  I love my Iphone, but I love the camera feature even more.  I used to carry around a Canon Elph with me everywhere and thought I was so cool to own such a sleek + compact machine, but the Iphone is so much faster, smaller and discreet. Dare I say I love it more than my DSLR?  No, like children I can’t have favorites now can I?  My mom didn’t (okay, we all knew my brother was her favorite). I shot a lot with the Iphone when I was away on business last week and my most favorite captures were the ones that were not planned and on the spot (I am usually not known for my spontaneity, photography has given me that luxury). I worked a lot with finding the right light for my cameraphone and playing with reflective surfaces to create the double exposure effect I love with my toy cameras.  I know there’s an app for multi-exposures but I have to always do things the hard way, it’s my nature. I have tried some alternate printing techniques to get the images from my phone to print. I am quite happy with the results but it’s time consuming and I would love to know if anyone has a resource that they love for printing their cameraphone shots in a click or are you not printing them out (I am guilty as charged for not printing out a lot of my digital shots, I have a baptism, Christmas party and 60th birthday that have not seen the light of day).
I gave the Fancy my first Iphone when I upgraded our contract and I have many, many anecdotes that I will share with you about that.  The Fancy, ahem ‘Ace’ as he prefers to be called on my blog is basically Larry David trapped in a young, hot guys body, so you may be able to garner what kind of rhetoric he has been spewing.  Fancy/Ace is good at everything he tries, so his Iphone photo’s already surpass mine, but I don’t want to feed his ego (or crush mine) so I tell him, ‘yeah, I guess you’re getting the hang of it’.  How’s that for support? If you lived with a Larry David clone you would do the same thing too, trust me….

CUP OF JO::HAIR GENIUS

I can not believe I haven’t gushed about this sooner because I am  truly coo coo for Coco Puffs over  the Cup of Jo’s hair tutorial series.  It is written and styled by the talented Joanna, her unbelievably gorgeous jewelry designer friend Caroline is the model (I have such a girl crush) and shot by one of my fave photographer’s Jamie Beck. The whole series is win-win, I tell you.  Bonus, the tutorials are easy enough to follow that even I of the instruction/tutorial challenged have actually been able to accomplish some of the hair feats.  In fact, I wore my hair in Heidi braids all week when I was in NYC, inspired by these cute tutes.  If you are looking for some style for your long locks, get over there now, you won’t be sorry, plus you can peek at Joanna’s cute boy Toby if hair isn’t your thing.
