NATURAL HISTORY::PHEASANT FEATHERS

I wanted to put together a grouping of images for my studio flat that had a natural history type feel to them.  I plan to make some botanical etchings on tissue of specimens from my garden but that takes time, (you need to press your botanicals before you begin) and well, I am into instant gratification (I blame both the internet + my parents).  I found these pheasant feathers for millinery projects at my local fabric store, they were too beautiful not to pass up and they work perfectly for what I was envisioning.

SOUVENIR FOTO SCHOOL:: FOOD + FOTO:: NO.02

This is my submission for week two of the Souvenir Foto School:: Food + Foto challenge. My goal for this session is to create consistency in my images as I tend to be all over the place.  I have found in my search for consistency I may have created boring + predictable instead–ouch.

I started off the class with yogurt and now I am on to granola bars.  I am focusing on the most important meal of the day–breakfast (or it may turn into an exploration of food with bits of red). This granola bar recipe was adapted from my beloved Barefoot Contessa’s arsenal.  I am not a huge shredded coconut fan so I opted out of that ingredient. For the nuts I chose a half and half ratio of sliced almonds and chopped pecans, the fruit I used was dried cranberries because I liked both the color and tartness it lends the bars.  I do find these bars a tad on the sweet side, the Fancy disagrees but he has a sweet tooth so he’s not a good sweet testing barometer.  I tried to lower the honey + sugar level once prior and ended up burning the bars, I am sure it had nothing to do with the honey or sugar but now I am gun shy to improvise on this recipe. I am good like that.

AN ANTHRO HOLIDAY

This morning I was in awe that it was already the beginning of the weekend. This week flew by, was it the same for you too?  Maybe, it’s just me and my insane schedule?  The weekend’s for me are filled with more busy, but the kind of busy I like where I can get lost in it for hours on end.  I saw this glimpse at Anthro today of holiday and was shocked to be reminded that it was here so soon.  Don’t get me wrong, I am coo coo for Christmas, so no complaining, I am just flabbergasted that it’s mere weeks away.  They have a very sweet stop motion movie with dancing ornaments on their site right now, it’s only a minute or so but will be sure to delight.

Wishing you all a weekend filled with good busy or no busy at all, whichever you prefer. I will be baking bread and to add to my carb fest I will be making some insanely thigh friendly mushroom risotto (I jest).  Nothing, sounds better to me right now than some gooey, cheese laden dish. I have a couple DIY projects that I want to shoot for the new blog (eek! I have a new blog) and of course I need to shoot my next assignment for our Food + Foto class.  It’s also my 3lb bunny/pups’ 9th birthday and I plan to celebrate with her (some how), she’s very easy to please so it shouldn’t be hard.
