Great design resources for designers + design novices

great-design-resources-for-designers-and-design-novices

I have been wanting to write this post since we first discovered this design resource marketplace! I have mentioned it in passing before but I wanted to do a little round-up of our favorite assets we have been using in our own work or assets we wish we had a project to use them in! The talent found at Creative Market is a little mind blowing but we do know the sheer volume of items available could make your head spin. What I love the most about Creative Market is that it’s also great for design novices, someone like bloggers or small business that may have a design aesthetic that may not match their skill level, you can find great templates to work with that you can modify and customize as much as your skill level allows. A basic Photoshop course which you can easily find on Skillshare or Youtube should be able to suffice in getting you to manipulate the templates (some shops even offer tutorials)!

One of my very favorite is StationSeven everything is so well branded clean and on trend. Their social media packs are really intriguing to me, I have never pursued social media outreach in this way but I think for a small business they could give you a nice head start! Social media packs 1 /2/3.

They have very clean styled stock photography. If you are unfamiliar with stock photography it is an excellent way to show your artwork insitu. This comes in handy especially if you are trying to sell your artwork on line so consumers can visualize your work in their own homes. We used one of her lovely designs for our Photoshop for Lettering Artist  class.

We think a good picture frame for mock-ups is imperative for displaying artwork. You can take your own photo of a frame of course and create a template but really who has that kind of time? You want to just sell your goods, right? Here are a few we like 1/ 2 / 3 / 4.

The handlettered font category here has a staggering amount of really good looking fonts. We can’t attest to the quality, but if you are doing fun little projects where you don’t need the quality of a truly high-end font than here are a few that might be of interest to you 1 / 2 / 3 /4.

We hope to be able to continue bringing you new resources on a regular basis as new (and good) ones pop up everyday. We think companies like Creative Market offer the opportunity for designers and entrepreneurs that need design assets to find great time saving templates. Even better, the marketplace is excellent for designers, Nicky Laatz was just lauded for having 1M in sales?!  That is an awesome accomplishment and we hope to hear more success stories from you!

P.S. I modified the StationSeven template for the post graphic using our Digital Cyanotype kit. We think it has so many uses for graphic application and we are totally in love with it and think your clients will be too!
